The William Byrd Middle School football team remained undefeated with a 60-0 win over Smith
Mountain Lake Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Terriers are now 4-0.
Last week the middle school team took a 20-0 win over previously undefeated Cave Spring
Middle School at Bogle Field.
The game initiated a new tradition between the two middle schools, started by Byrd coach Ryan Hutchison. The game has been dubbed the “Noell Bowl” in honor of Byrd Middle School principal Evan Noell and his brother, Josh, who is an assistant principal at Cave Spring Middle School. A 45 pound plate will be housed at the winning school each year in honor of the rivalry. Byrd will play Andrew Lewis Middle School at Salem Stadium a week from today, and that’s shaping up as a big one. Both teams are still undefeated.
