William Fleming High School was the site of the 58th annual
Cosmopolitan Track Meet last weekend and William Byrd High School and
Middle School participated. There were divisions for the middle schoolers, a
Junior Division for ninth and 10th graders and a Senior Division for juniors and
seniors.
Byrd’s Grace Onwi was named the Most Outstanding Runner in the girls’
Senior Division and DeShawn Austin and Lily Perez were named Most
Outstanding Field Event competition athletes.

Onwi won the 100m dash with a time of 12.75, the 400m dash with a time
of 58.78 and the 200m dash with a time of 26.16. Perez won the triple jump at
35’2, the long jump at 16’11 and the “Richard Pitts” 100m hurdles with a time of
16.11.
Austin won the long jump with a jump of 21’10 ¼” and the triple jump
with a jump of 45’9”. Landon Martin finished 2nd in the 110m hurdles race while
Ashton Williamson and Zane Taylor finished 3rd and 4th in the Junior Division
110m hurdles.
Michal Hamlar was 3rd in the girls 100m dash Junior Division and 4th in the
200m dash. The 4x100m relay of Kaidence Stores, Hamlar, Bre Sigmon and Mya
Johnson finished 2nd in the Junior Division. The 4x100m relay of Jakeem Toler,
Steven Byers, Ke’Arion Burch and Jamari Toler took third in the boys’ Junior
Division.
Jadyn St. Clair finished 7th in the Junior girls 400m dash while Brooklyn
Strother finished 5th in the Junior 300m hurdles. Williamson was 3rd in the Junior
300m hurdles.
Jenna Petersen finished 4th in the girls’ Junior 800m dash and Gio
Pandolfini finished 4th in the boys’ Junior 800m. The Junior Division 4x400m
relay of Keeli Emery, Jadyn St. Clair, Jenna Petersen and Johnson finished
2 nd. And the boys’ 4x400m relay took second.
Burch finished 2nd in the boys long jump and 3rd in the triple jump in the
Junior Division. Kaelyn Wheeler won the girls’ Junior discus throw competition
and Skye Williams won the girls shot put competition in the Junior Division.
Bella Craddock won the girls pole vault competition in the Junior Division
and Williamson won the boys pole vault.
In the Middle School meet Bella Shropshire was second in both the 100
and 300 hurdles and fifth in the triple jump.

In the boys’ events Jayden Omiyo was third in the discus, Maurkese
Burnette was fourth in the shot put and Donte Gallimore took sixth in the high
jump. The 4×100 relay team of Zyquan Austin, Kayden Gibson, Brogan Jordan
and Gallimore was sixth.
