Amanda Lusk has been named to the position of Director of Family Ministries at Lynn Haven
Baptist Church beginning May 1, 2025. She is a familiar face in Vinton as a fifth-grade teacher at
Herman L. Horn Elementary School and will continue in that position as well.

“I am honored and excited to be in the position of Director of Family Ministries at Lynn Haven
Baptist,” Lusk said. “I have enjoyed serving the Lord for the past twenty-nine years with my late
husband, Eric Lusk, in part-time ministry through teaching Sunday school for children and
young adults, organizing and implementing children’s church, directing vacation bible schools,
and working with teenagers and young adults in six different churches in the Roanoke Valley.
“My day job, however, is a public-school teacher. I have worked at Herman L. Horn Elementary
for twenty-four years. I love children and want to be a good role model for them. I knew at an
early age that my God-given talent was teaching. Building relationships with children in the
Vinton community for the past twenty-four years has been very rewarding. I look forward to
fostering these relationships through my ministry at Lynn Haven.”
“Lynn Haven is an actively growing, multigenerational church striving to lead and disciple our
community. We are looking forward to partnering with families to help them disciple their
children of all ages.
“We offer a nurturing, Christ-centered Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and preschool and children’s
church during our 10:30 worship service. We also provide nursery care during both services.
Our background-checked volunteers are well-trained and equipped to meet the needs of all
children.
“We recently rebranded our children’s department as ‘Star Kids.’ Our mission verse is Matthew
5:16: ‘Let your light shine before others.’ We teach our kids to ‘shine bright’ for Jesus by being
safe, respectful, and responsible in their daily life.
“As a mom of two young adults, I have a passion for keeping young adults connected to their
church. I look forward to providing opportunities to help bridge this generation. We look forward
to hosting events for families in the future on topics such as internet safety, substance abuse,
bullying, and suicide prevention.”
Lynn Haven Baptist is located at 1501 E Washington Ave in Vinton.
