William Byrd High School alumni from the graduating classes of 1964 and 1965 held a
combined reunion at the Charles R. Hill Community Center on Oct. 19. Over 70 guests—alumni
and spouses—attended an evening of dinner and reminiscing.
Byrd football Coach Norman Lineburg was honored at the reunion. He was presented with a list
of class members who had donated to the Arnold R. Burton Scholarship Fund in memory of his
wife Joann Lineburg, who was the girls’ Health & PE teacher at William Byrd.
The scholarship tradition began during one of their earlier reunions. They have been presenting
two Burton scholarships each year to WBHS seniors for 21 years. Next spring’s scholarships will
mark their 22nd year.

Arnold R. Burton was the principal for the classes of 1964 and 1965. His daughter, Suzanne,
graduated in the Class of 1964, and his wife, Jimmie, was the cafeteria manager.
The classes traditionally hold reunions every ten years and usually together. This year marked
the 60th anniversary for the Class of 1964.
