On October 30, 2015 at 1:09 AM, officers of the Vinton Police Department responded to a train collision with a vehicle at the train crossing located at 8th St and Walnut Ave.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle left the roadway and became stuck on the tracks on the right side of the crossing, prior to the train’s approach. The train personnel were unable to stop the train in time and struck the front of the vehicle, dragging it approximately 25 yards. The driver of the vehicle, Kristi Gallion of Vinton, exited her vehicle prior to the collision and was not injured. She was charged with driving under the influence.

Officer J.R. Keith is the investigating officer.
