With the Virginia High School League spring sports season now complete All-
Region 3D teams were released for publication in the past week. William Byrd was
represented in baseball, softball and both soccer teams.
In baseball, senior Kam McKee was named to the first team in the outfield.
Second team selections were junior JW Vaughan at catcher and junior Cannin Lutz at
third base. Honorable Mention went to junior Connor Jones at pitcher and junior Jake
Courtemanche at shortstop. Abingdon’s Jeff Humphreys was the region Player of the
Year and Abingdon coach Mark Francisco was Coach of the Year.

In softball, junior Olivia Bustamante was a first team choice in the outfield for
Byrd. Junior Addison Clark was second team at pitcher and Honorable Mention goes to
freshman Hadyn Grubb at shortstop. Kailynne Kiester of Staunton River was named
Player of the Year and Chelsea Campbell of Abingdon is Coach of the Year.

In boys’ soccer two Terriers made the first team all-region, senior Sergio Leon at
forward and senior Ian Sigmon on defense. Second team goes to senior Daniel Britts on
defense and junior Shawn Gower at midfield. Junior Tyson Brady made Honorable
Mention on defense. Christiansburg swept the All-Region honors with Sami Seife as
Player of the Year and Adam Pickeral as Coach of the Year.


In girls’ soccer two Byrd freshmen made the first team, Kendall Ranson at forward
and Bella Barrette at midfield. Byrd had no second teamers but Honorable Mention went
to junior Logan Andrews and freshman Maddie Barrette. Cave Spring, who beat Byrd in the state tournament and was undefeated before losing in the championship game, swept the big honors as Gabriella Carnevali was Player of the Year and Erin Smith was Coach of the Year.
