The William Byrd tennis teams took on Northside last Friday and swept the
Vikings. The girls won 9-0 at Northside and the boys took an 8-1 win at Byrd.
Singles winners for the girls were, in order on the ladder, #1 Ainsley Bolen- 8-1,
#2 Avery Chitwood 8-5, #3 Brooke Justus 8-0, #4 Miley Moses Pinion 8-1, #5 Bethany
Pittenger 8-0 and #6 Peyton Wright 8-0.
Doubles winners were Justus and Moses Pinion at one, Bolen and Chitwood at two and Pittenger and Fallon Davis at three as the Terriers improved to 5-1 in the district and 9-6 overall.
Singles winners for the boys against Northside were Josh Abbott, Keith Schult, Cody Gardner, Braeden Booth and Bryce Simpson. Byrd then swept the doubles for a district win on Senior Day.
The Byrd boys swept William Fleming on Tuesday of this week, 9-0. Fleming
does not have a girls’ team.
Both teams return to action next Tuesday against Franklin County with the boys
at home and the girls in Rocky Mount.
