The Vinton Police Department sponsored the annual National Night Out on August 7 at the Charles R. Hill Senior Center. Children were thrilled with climbing on and through emergency vehicles, checking out the State Police robot, and a bouncy house and games. There were free hot dogs grilled by the Vinton Police, free ice cream and sno-cones. An impressive crowd attended the event including Neighborhood Watch groups, families, Vinton Town Council and town staff, county officials, and representatives from local groups such as the Chamber of Commerce. Special guests were the band Eastern Divide, which included members from the Virginia State Police. The band at one point was joined by Vinton Police Sgt. Michael Caldwell (on left).Chad Dailey from Vinton Fire and EMS shows his nephew Ethan how the fire engine works.
