Tai Chi – defensive training and/or health benefit? The Mount Pleasant Lions Club saw the quiet moves of guest speaker Steve Garay on Tuesday, July 17. He was joined by Lion Mike Ferguson in the demonstration. Both men are instructors at the Charles R. Hill Senior Center in Vinton.
Garay discussed the five major styles of Tai Chi and how this martial art can bring health and wellness. Practicing Tai Chi can improve balance and is easy and safe to seniors. As for defense, he suggested that the best weapon is the brain.
Classes are available at the Senior Center in Vinton on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. and 4 p.m. for those who may want to give it a kick and a punch.
