The swimming post-season is almost upon us with the Blue Ridge District meet scheduled for Tuesday, February 1, at the Franklin County YMCA. Last week the William Byrd team dipped into the Franklin County waters with a tri-meet against Lord Botetourt and the host Eagles and Byrd defeated both in combined scores.

The Byrd boys swept both, defeating LB, 121-39, and Franklin County, 123-47. The women lost to both but on the strength of the Byrd men the Terriers downed both in combined scores, 174-145 over LB and 191 to 125 over Franklin.

“I was proud of the swimmers for getting in there and giving it their best go after being out of the water for a week due to weather,” said coach Krista Martin. “We had some good swims.”

First place finishes included the following:

Aiden Brinkley won the 200 free and the 100 back;

Austin Nielsen won the 200 IM;

Colin Murtaugh won the 200 fly and the 500 free;

Nathan Miller won the 100 free;

Boys 200 Medley Relay won  with Aiden Brinkley, Nielsen, Murtaugh and Dawson Brinkley;

Boys 200 free relay won with Evan Copening, Griffin Horacek, Elliott Gaines and  Miller;

Boys 400 free relay won with Dawson Brinkley, Aiden Brinkley, Nielsen, and Murtaugh;

Girls 400 free relay won with Amber Vaughn, Madeline Miller, Macie Hall and  Emma Copening.
