The Region 3C track meet was held at Christiansburg High School last week and
the William Byrd girls finished third as a team and the boys were 10th . The Abingdon
girls and Cave Spring boys won team titles.
The top eight finishers in each event scored in the region meet and the top four
will advance to the Class 3 state meet this weekend in Lynchburg. The Class 3 and 4
meets will be held at Liberty University’s track on Friday and Saturday.
The Byrd girls had a good day in Christiansburg. The 4×100 meter relay team of
Thalia Green, Michal Hamlar, Lily Perez and Ellie Ruble took a first place with a time of
50.66. The 4×800 foursome of Lucy Whitenack, Jenna Petersen, Keeli Emery and Jaydn
St. Clair took a second at 10:36 to qualify for the state meet.
Individually Perez had a great day and was named Region 3D Field Event Athlete
of the Year. Lily won the long jump, breaking her own school record with a leap of 18’
6.5”, and also won the triple jump at 35’9”. Perez cleared 5’2” to finish second in the
high jump and on the track she took third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.26.
Skye Williams state qualified in the discus before the regional meet, where she
finished sixth, but also qualified for the state meet in the shot put by tossing the heavy
ball 33’8” for a fourth place region finish. Brooklyn Strother finished fourth in the 300m
hurdles to place herself into the state meet with a time of 49.83.
In the boys’ meet the 4×800 team of Jack Petersen, Colton Sotherden, Camden
Ward and Giovanni Pandolfini finished third with a time of 8:31.56 to qualify for the
state meet. Davion Wade finished fourth in the 110m hurdles in 16.30 to punch his
ticket to Liberty University this weekend. Davion also scored with a seventh place finish
in the 300 hurdles.
Jules Hippeau Coltat just missed advancing when he took fifth in the pole vault.
Titus Beatty was fifth in shot put, Petersen was sixth in the 400 meters and Steven Byers
was sixth in the discus.
