The Blue Ridge District track meet was held at Staunton River High School in Moneta last Saturday and it was a big day for the William Byrd team. Both the Terrier boys and girls won BRD titles.
The boys scored 180 points to outdistance second place Franklin County, who had 105. The boys team started the day off with Walter Barrows winning the long jump with a distance of 21’11.25 while Ethan Haston finished 4th (20’1”) and Deshawn Austin finished 5th (19’10).
Wyatte Bailey won the pole vault with a height of 13’, Haston finished 2nd (11’) and Kyle Holdaway 3rd (9’6). Austin won the triple jump competition with a distance of 43’6 and Haston finished 3rd (39’7) and DeShannon Reed took 4th (39’7).
In the shot put Caleb Thompson finished 2nd with a throw of 42’3 and Gregory Stiltner was 4th with a throw of 39’7. In the discus Thompson was 2nd at 130’3 and Barry Cheatwood finished 5th at 105’10.
Barrows finished 5th (11.19) in the 100m and 2nd in the 200m(22.48) while Brady Reachy finished 3rd in the 200m with a state qualifying time of 22.80. In the 400m dash Bailey won the event with a time of 50.96 and Isaiah Board finished 5th (55.26).
In the 800m Reid Hanson finished 6th (2:18.28) and in the Mile Donald Mullins finished 2nd with a time of 4:38.38. Drew Bartley finished 3rd in the two mile run in 13:16.74. Austin finished 3rd (16.32) in the 110 hurdles and Landon Martin was 4th (16.33). In the 300m hurdles Austin won the event with a time of 40.57.
The 4x100m of Barrows, Reed, Lane Shoemaker and Dylan Hughes won the event with a time of 44.22 and the 4x400m relay of Bailey, Austin, Reachy and Board won with a time of 3:32.88. The 4x800m relay of Griffin Yakob, Reagan Lilley, Jhaquin Johnson and Reid Hanson finished 3rd in 9:46.91.
The girls scored 130 points to win the meet, with William Fleming second at 115. Emma Matthews finished 5th in the 100m dash and Grace Owni finished 3rd in the 400m dash and 6th in the 200m dash. In the 800m run Olivia Hurd won the event in 2:26.52, Liz Dixon finished 3rd and 5th place was Lucy Whitenack.
In the mile Alex Bonilla finished 4th and Riley Roth finished 5th. In the 100m hurdles Emma Kageals finished 3rd with a time of 17.76 and in the 300m hurdles Emma finished 4th while Virginia Yonce finished 3rd and Emily Fisher finished 5th.
The 4x100m relay of Olaedo Anyanwu, Matthews, Allyson Mavredes and Jazaria West-Brown finished 2nd with a time of 54.39 and the 4x400m of Hurd, Owni, Jayden Niday and Matthews finished with a time of 4:22.37.
In the high jump Olivia Bustamante won the competition, tied the school record and qualified for the state track meet with a height of 5’. In the pole vault Spencer Peters won the competition with a height of 7’ and Alexia Donahue finished 3rd and Emma Kageals finished 4th.
Lily Perez finished 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 32’10 while Kageals finished 4th and Emily Fisher finished 5th.
In the throws, Olaedo Anyanwu finished 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 27’7 and Samantha Flippen finished 5th in the discus with a throw of 72’11.
The Terriers are now off until Thursday, May 25, when they compete in the Region 3D meet at Cave Spring, beginning at 2 pm.
