The William Byrd Choir program is proud to share that four William Byrd Middle School
singers and three William Byrd High School singers went to Richmond in April to participate in
All-Virginia Chorus. The path to All-Virginia included a successful All-District audition prior to
auditioning for All-Virginia. The high school event consists of equal representation from the 16
musical districts in the state. Middle school auditions don’t consider location, so being accepted
to this event is more difficult.
There were two middle school and two high school ensembles at the event. The two middle
school groups are separated according to grade and voice part, while the two high school groups
consist of two randomly-placed groups of different voicings (one treble choir and one mixed
choir).
While at All-Virginia, the singers were under the direction of a nationally prominent choral
clinician according to their placed choir. During the three-day event they rehearsed pre-selected
music extensively, enjoyed performances by guest choirs, and performed for the other choirs.
The event culminated in a performance of their music at the Greater Richmond Convention
Center. Participating WBMS singers were Jaylynn Williams (6th grade), Claire Draper (7th grade),
Allison Bowling (8th grade), and Savannah Radosevich (6th grade). Participating WBHS singers
were Cindel Camper (12th grade), Connor Wheeler (11th grade), and Olaedo Anyanwu
(12th grade).
