Art students at William Byrd Middle School have supported the Roanoke Center for Animal
Care and Protection (RCACP) this holiday season by decorating ornaments for the RCACP Pet
Angel Tree located at the Canine Cottage in Salem.
The Friends of Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) is a nonprofit
organization dedicated to creating community engagement and awareness in support of the
animals awaiting adoption from the RCACP. The Friends of RCACP’s primary focus is on
fundraising and community outreach.
This time each year they ask the community to “share your blessings with precious animals who
need your help.”
Donations are used to provide resources for the animals and/or owners of those animals that go
beyond the capabilities and budget of the shelter.
Each year the Friends of the RCACP partner with a local business to host their pet angel tree.
This year the Canine Cottage in Salem is hosting the tree.
The Friends also asked Laura Baldwin’s eighth grade art classes at William Byrd Middle School
if they would decorate wooden ornaments for the tree. They did a fantastic job painting and
decorating each one. The ornaments have the photo of an adoptable pet and a small ($5-$10)
wish-list on the back.
Anyone who would like to stop by the Canine Cottage is welcome to take an ornament (or two)
off the tree and make a donation to their donation box if you can.
Plan to have gifts dropped off by December 21 so Santa has time to deliver them to the shelter.
The Canine Cottage is located at 1145 East Main Street in Salem.
