Jaylynn Williams, current 7th grader at William Byrd Middle School, participated in the Voices
United Children’s Honor Choir the first weekend in August. This event took place at George
Mason University and consists of singers from Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and
Delaware.
According to audition information, students who are nominated should be strong in music
reading skills, tone quality, social skills, willingness to work with peers and adults, and aptitude
for success with long rehearsals.
William Byrd Choral Director Matt Bartley says of Jaylynn, “This isn’t an event that I have sent
students to in the past, but she took the initiative to prepare her audition and set aside time in her
summer to participate after making it. I’m particularly impressed with her desire to be part of any
choir possible. A simple desire to make music anywhere, anytime, anyplace is the type of singer
that a choir director absolutely LOVES to have in their program. Jaylynn has already built up
quite the resume, having already participated in All-District Chorus, All-Virginia Chorus, and
now the Voices United Honor choir in one year.”
