VINTON–William Byrd High School will be holding their annual Veterans Day event on Wednesday, November 11. Organizers are inviting area veterans to attend and be recognized.

The event includes the Flag Retirement Ceremony from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., lunch at 11:30 served by the Culinary Arts students, and a Meet and Greet with WBHS students starting at 12:30 in the gym.

Veterans are invited to attend any or all of the events on that day. Accommodations are made for those with disabilities.

The WBHS Student Council, along with the Air Force JROTC, the social studies department, the chorus and band, and the Culinary Arts Department are hosting the event.

The Meet and Greet has become a very popular part of the day when students are able to meet veterans of all wars on a one-to-one basis, learn about their experiences, and thank them for their service.

Invitations have been mailed to individuals attending past Veterans Day events, but all veterans are welcome to register and attend.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Nov. 11. Veterans may register in advance and obtain more information by calling the high school at 890-3090. All veterans and their guests are asked to register through the WBHS office. Social studies teacher Katie Hetherington is the event coordinator.
