Top-seeded JF ends Byrd’s season

The William Byrd volleyball season came to an end Tuesday night in the Group 4A, Region D tournament. Byrd lost to top-seeded Jefferson Forest in three sets in Forest to be eliminated from post-season play.

The Terriers put up a good fight against the region’s top ranked team. After losing the first set 25-17 the Terriers battled to the wire before losing the next two, 25-23 and 25-22. Lauren Heck led the offense with 11 kills.  Elena Boitnott dished out 16 assists and Maddy Nance put up 5 blocks.

The Cavaliers advanced to Thursday’s semifinal round with a match against Liberty Christian Academy. The other semifinal finds Carroll County at Blacksburg and the winners will play for the region championship November 7.

Byrd finishes the season with at 7-16. Four Terriers were named to the All-Blue Ridge District team, including seniors Heck and Boitnott on the first team. Two juniors, Nance and Faith Andrews, made the second team.
