The William Byrd soccer team will be looking for its first win Monday when the Terriers host Conference 24 rival Bassett. Game time is 5:30 for the jayvees with the varsity to follow on the Patterson Stadium pitch.

Byrd is still looking for a goal after losing to Hidden Valley Tuesday, 4-0. It was the second shutout loss to the Titans in as many tries as Byrd fell to 0-2. The Terriers were frozen out of a game with Lord Botetourt last week, and that will be made up on May 7.

“It seems we’ve taken a few steps back,” said first year Terrier coach Matt Guilliams. “I haven’t seem them play this poorly yet and I’m not 100 percent sure as to why. We just had no intensity, no self-pride about us. At least last week we responded and continue to work hard, but it was a totally different story this time around.

“Like we told them after the game, there is only so much us coaches can do to prepare and get them ready to go, they still have to go out there and execute, together.

“We’ve got some soul searching to do and we’ll find out the next couple of days in practice who wants to step up and start playing with some heart.

“These two losses don’t define our season, but they’ve certainly shown us what level we’re playing at and what level we need to be on going forward.”
