The Blue Ridge District golf tournament was held at the Botetourt Golf & Swim
Club Tuesday and William Byrd came home with the big trophy. The Terriers shot a
team score of 305 to take first place among the five district schools fielding a full team.

Byrd had four scores of 78 or better on the par 71 Botetourt course. Tyler
Chambers led the Terriers with a 74 followed by Bradley Counts with a season’s best 75,
David Foster at 77 and Asher Claybrook with a 78. Ryland Stump of Northside was
medalist with a two-over 73.
Byrd’s team score of 305 was five strokes better than second place Northside,
who had 310. Franklin County was next at 315 followed Lord Botetourt, who won the
regular season championship, at 322. Staunton River shot 404 and William Fleming did
not have a complete team with just three golfers on the course.
After the tournament the All-Blue Ridge District team was announced and
Chambers, a senior, made first team. Fellow senior Claybrook and Foster, a junior, were
named to the second team.

“I’m so proud of the kids for all their hard work this year,” said coach Hunter
Thompson.
Next up for the Terriers is the Region 3D tournament. That will be held on
October 6th at the Draper Valley Golf Course. Only the top two teams and three
individuals not on those teams advance to the state Class 3 tournament at the Heritage
Oaks course in Harrisonburg on October 13.
