The William Byrd lacrosse teams are scheduled to play at Jefferson Forest today. The girls will open the doubleheader at 5 pm with the boys to follow.

The girls played three times in the past week while the boys did not get a game in. Both teams were rained out Monday at Franklin County and the rescheduled date is April 25 at Ferrum College.

The girls opened a busy week with a 15-3 win over William Fleming at Vinyard Park last Wednesday in their first home game of the season. Attackers Chloe Pascoe and Tabitha Beecher scored five and four goals, respectively, while Ali Shail and Natalie Ferguson added two each. Emmy Harris dominated the defensive side of the field with nine groundballs and an interception while also causing three turnovers.

A makeup game at Rockbridge was next and Byrd took a 12-4 win as Beecher and Chloe Pascoe recorded four goals each. Goalie Evamarie Pascoe recorded 10 saves.

On Saturday at William Byrd High School the Terriers dropped a 16-8 game to Hidden Valley. Byrd gave up six goals in the first five minutes, showing signs of fatigue.

“The team was just too tired, this game was our third in four days,” said coach Dan Eberhardt. “We did manage to settle down and find a grove. If we weren’t so tired and didn’t give up the quick six in the first half it would have been a different game.”

Both teams scored five goals in the second half. Beecher had four goals, Chloe Pascoe added three and Leah Andersen had one. The defense was led by goalie Evamarie Pascoe with nine saves and Harris with four groundballs and one interception.

The boys are hoping to get back on track after a rough start. Both teams are scheduled to host Cave Spring on Monday with the girls at 5:30 pm and the boys to follow.

“It’s been a rough season but we have a bright future with 10 freshmen and changing attitudes,” said coach Noel Spencer.
