Spring sports practice is now underway and many William Byrd High School sports team will be having scrimmages this week.

The baseball and softball teams were scheduled to scrimmage on Wednesday, but due to inclement weather those scrimmages have been moved back to today, Thursday March 2. The baseball team will scrimmage at home at Walthall Park at 5 pm and the softball team is at Patrick Henry at 5 pm. The softball team is in the Auburn Jamboree in Riner on Saturday and the baseball team has an away scrimmage next Wednesday, March 8, against Brookville and Appomattox.

The boys’ soccer team will be busy this weekend under new coach Matt Guilliams. The Terriers will scrimmage at Patrick Henry on Friday, with jayvees at 5:30 pm and the varsity at 7 pm. On Saturday Byrd will participate in the Cave Spring Jamboree at Bogle Field. The Terriers will scrimmage Glenvar at 9 am, then scrimmage Salem at 1:10 pm. Franklin County, Lord Botetourt and host Cave Spring are also participating.

The soccer girls were in a jamboree at Cave Spring last weekend. They’re scheduled to scrimmage at Patrick Henry tonight, with the jayvees at 5:30 pm and the varsity at 7 pm.

The official start of spring sports will be the week of March 13.
