Virginia High School League all-state teams have been announced and William
Byrd has two representatives in Class 3. Byrd had many athletes named to Region 3D and
Blue Ridge District teams.
Byrd’s all-state players are both from the boys’ soccer team. Junior Ian Sigmon
was named to the first team as a defender and senior Bricen Lancaster was a second team
selection at Goalkeeper.
The Terriers were well-represented on the Region 3D soccer team, including five
first team selections. Sigmon and Lancaster were named to the first team along with
junior Sergio Leon at forward and senior Cole Kovacevic and junior Daniel Britts on
defense. Ben Guertin, a senior, was second team all-region at forward.
In the Blue Ridge District Leon, Kovacevic and Sigmon were named to the first
team while Guertin, Lancaster, Britts and senior midfielder Dexter Gaines were named to
the second team.
In girls’ soccer Byrd senior Addisyn St. Clair was named first team All-Region
3D at forward and Claire Glover, also a senior, was second team at midfield. St. Clair and
Glover were both first team choices on the All-Blue Ridge District team while Logan
Andrews and Mia Martin made the second team.
In baseball Byrd had no players make the first or second team all-state or
all-region. Honorable Mention All-Region 3D went to Hayden Eads, Brogan
Dent, Kam McKee, Ian Burnett, Israel Hairston and Cooper Minnix.
Byrd had three players make first team All-Blue Ridge District, infielders
Hairston and Burnett and pitcher Minnix. Eads, Dent and Brenin Witcher made the
second team, Eads in the outfield, Witcher at pitcher and Dent as a combination infielder
and pitcher.
In softball, senior Sydney Blewett was a second team All-Region 3D selection at
shortstop and Byrd had four girls deemed Honorable Mention, Sydney Tuck, Mandolin
Draper, Heidi Dixon and Addison Clark. Blewett was also first team All-Blue Ridge
District along with catcher Tuck and pitcher-infielder Clark. Second teamers were
infielders Mallory Peroulas, Dixon and Draper.
In boys’ lacrosse, Justyn Rozenboom was named first team All-Region D at
faceoff. Second team Terriers are Ben Waid at midfield and Jonathan Rosser at long stick
midfield.
For the girls, Annika Hylton and Katelyn Franks both made second team All-
Region D, Hylton at midfield and Franks on defense. Honorable mention went to Ava
Sexton at attack and Samantha Martin at midfield.
In tennis, Makenna Jacobsen and Ashley Begasse were named All-Blue Ridge
District for the girls’ team and Ryan Carista and Camden Thepsimuong were all-district
for the boys. Byrd’s Alexandria Gunn was named boys’ BRD Coach of the Year.
