Once again the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office is taking reports of citizens receiving phone calls from people claiming to be a deputy from the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office.

The callers are informing the victims that they have missed jury duty and they owe a certain amount of money. This scam comes up a few times a year and the Sheriff’s Office wants the public to know it will never ask for money if you have missed jury duty.

In the event you have missed jury duty, you may have a deputy from the department personally come to your home to speak with you about it. The Sheriff’s Office does not conduct business over the phone in regards to this type of incident.

If you do receive a call from a “deputy,” Sheriff Orange has asked that you call the Sheriff’s Office directly at 540-283-3102.
