September is First Aid Recruitment month in Vinton. The public is invited to an Open House at the station on September 24.

Vinton First Aid Crew Chief Wayne Guffey advised Vinton Town Council at its meeting on September 5, that September has been declared Recruitment Month.

All 54 members of the Vinton volunteer organization will be wearing special T-shirts featuring recruitment information during that time. The shirts display the official website, www.vintonems.com, where information is available about the First Aid Crew and becoming a first responder:

Individuals ages 16 and up are eligible to join the crew. More information and an application are available on the website.

The Vinton First Aid Crew will be holding an open house at the station located at 110 West Jackson Avenue on Sunday, September 24, from 2 to 6 p.m. The community is invited to attend.

There will be activities for the children, tours of the facility, blood pressure checks, and the opportunity to talk with members of the crew. The new Vinton Police Department Mobile Services Community Unit will be onsite with its grill, and possibly some free ice cream.

Prospective members will be able to find out more about what it means to be a member of the Vinton First Aid Crew and the vital role its members serve the community and surrounding area.
