Meagan Webb was awarded the Vinton Host Lions Club Leo Club scholarship for 2017. Her brother Daniel received the same recognition last year. Both were members of the William Byrd High School Leo Club, a community service organization that is affiliated with the Lions Club.
They were the guests of the Lions at their meeting at Thrasher Memorial on August 14. Meagan Webb talked about her activities as a high school student including theatre and competing on the academic team. She was a student at the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School in addition to attending WBHS. She then talked about her plans to study biological systems engineering at Virginia Tech this fall. In response to questions about her career path from club members, Webb spoke about an internship she participated in at Virginia Tech last summer where she helped design an inexpensive optical density reader with 3D printed parts and Python programming.
Her brother then spoke about his major in electrical engineering at Virginia Tech and his internship at AECOM.
Lions Club members noted that this was the first time a pair of siblings both won the scholarship.
The Vinton Host Lions Club meets at Thrasher on the second Monday of each month.
