The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
(NSDAR) gathered for its October meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Campbell
Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vinton.
In recognition of the DAR National Day of Service, members spent the morning tying fleece
blankets for veterans. The red and blue fleece was purchased earlier in the year, and members
met over the summer to cut the fringes. Over 20 lap blankets were hand-tied by the members and
will be donated to the Salem VA Medical Center to give to local veterans.

DAR members celebrate the annual day of service every year on October 11, the anniversary of
the organization’s founding. Roanoke Valley Chapter has been making fleece blankets for
veterans as a service project for over 20 years.
Vice Regent Shannon Campbell presented a program on the new NSDAR committee,
“Celebrating Daughters.” This committee is a redesign of the former women’s issues committee
to meet the needs of modern women. The committee focuses on three pillars: professional
development, health and wellness, and celebrating members.
The chapter also welcomed new member Cheryl Eyermann and recognized several prospective
members. Announcements included the upcoming genealogy workshop “From Patriot to
Breaking the DAR Code” scheduled for October 25 at the Roanoke Garden Club, and
participation in the Virginia’s Veterans Parade in downtown Roanoke on November 8.
A special auction featuring a patriotic scarf and book on the Constitution raised funds for
Wreaths Across America, supporting the chapter’s goal of sponsoring wreaths to honor veterans
at Mountain View Cemetery this coming holiday season.
