The Mystic Pirates of the Kazim Shriners invaded Vinton on “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” first to read to kindergartners at Herman L. Horn, and then for a charity fundraiser at Twin Creeks Brewing Co., holding Twin Creeks co-owner Andy Bishop (front right) hostage.

September 19 was “Talk Like a Pirate Day” internationally and in Vinton, where the Mystic Pirates of Kazim from the Shriners’ organization visited Herman L. Horn Elementary School to read to about 55 kindergartners and then stopped by Twin Creeks Brewing Co. for a charity fundraiser. The pirate gang was led by Greg Jakubowski, also known as “Thunder.”

Twin Creeks came up with a special brew in honor of the event— Mystic Pirate Grog, which co-owner Andy Bishop described as a “mango habanero ale.”

One dollar from each pint of Mystic Pirate Grog was donated to charity. Twin Creeks and the Mystic Pirates plan for this to become an annual event.

The newly formed (in January) Mystic Pirates is just one of several Shriners’ entertainment units.
