Members of the William Byrd track team attended two meets last week and had
some good results. Terriers ran in the East Coast Elite Meet #2 at Roanoke College on
Thursday of last week and the VA Showcase meet in Virginia Beach on Saturday.
A few Byrd athletes traveled to Virginia Beach for the VA showcase and Grace
Onwi set a new school record in the 500m dash while winning the open competition with
a time of 1:19.13. She also set a school record in the 300m dash with a time of 42.61.
Also competing in the VA Showcase meet were Noah Thompson in the 55m dash,
DeShawn Austin and Brady Reachy in the 300m, Reagan Lilley in the 1,000m and
Donald Mullins in both the 1,000m and the 1,600m.
At RC DeShawn Austin and Cooper Minnix set personal records in the 55m dash
with a time of 6.7, and in the 55m hurdles Landon Martin had a personal record time of
8.52 to finish second. The 4x200m relay of Minnix, Jarrett Shepherd, Thomas Purcell and
Elliott Gaines finished 4th with a time of 1:39.77.
In the field events Jack Hinkle placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40′ 7″;
Kyle Holdaway was fourth and Logan Austin finished fifth in the pole vault.
On the ladies side Olivia Bustamante won the high jump competition with a
height of 4′ 11″; and finished seventh in the long jump. Sydney Blewett took second in the
shot put with a throw of 34′ 2″; and Alexia Donahue finished fourth in the pole vault.
On the oval Heidi Weinke finished fourth in the two mile with a time of
13:31.36. Lily Perez finished fifth in the hurdles at 9.74 while Lucy Whitenack was
eighth in the mile with a time of 6:04.14 and Emma Matthews finished ninth in the 300m
dash in 47.45.
The Terriers are scheduled to run in a meet at Heritage High in Lynchburg on
Monday.
