The Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary held their annual Veterans Day breakfast,
honoring veterans with a free and delicious meal. There was a steady stream of veterans and
other guests throughout the morning.
This year’s guest of honor was veteran Tamara DeGregorio, Sgt. USAF Medic, who served for
six years in the United States Air Force. She helped establish the first primary care clinic on the
base in Nevada where she was stationed. She worked for several years in a cardiologist’s office,
running tests on patients at far beyond the average skill level. She then moved forward in her
career to do transcription work for various doctors.
Tamara met “the love of her life,” Mt. Pleasant’s own Capt. Pete DeGregorio, and began
working at a Christian school, where she basically was the school nurse. She was very active in
the church and loved to sing in the choir. She acted and sang in numerous church plays.
Tamara also has “an amazing green thumb” and loves to garden. Among her accomplishments
are her two children, Mt. Pleasant’s FF/EMT Bekah DeGregorio and USMC veteran Pete
DiGregorio, Jr., who are both accomplished in their own lives. She is also especially proud of her
grandchildren.
The William Byrd High School Navy National Defense Cadet Corps and their instructor, Chief
Petty Officer Michael Dixon, assisted with the meal and guests at the fire department. They led
the Pledge of Allegiance with two cadets, Alexis Short and Leighann Wood, performing the
national anthem.
Capt. DeGregorio manned the griddle, along with other members of the fire department.
