The VAWA State Wrestling Tournament for youth was held at the Cregger
Center on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem last week. Several wrestlers from the
Vinton youth program and Junior Big Orange made the podium.
Earning first place and being deemed VAWA champion were Jace Dangerfield at
93 pounds and Garrett Brunk at 144 pounds. Zach Taylor was third at 150, Jayden Omiyo
was fifth at 175 and Reagan Bisnett took sixth place at 62 pounds in a large field of
wrestlers.

“We are super proud of all of the kids in our youth and middle school programs,”
said Big Orange high school head coach Thomas Kessler. “We will continue training year
round with our youth program. Parents can find sign ups on the Vinton Booster Club
site.”
