William Byrd art teacher Denise Sartell and three of her students received recognition for their

Scary Dragon”), Sandy Scott (“Dark Dweller”), and Eliza Underwood Agee (“Goober Meow”)
won honorable mention “Round-of-a-Paws” awards.
Sixteen students from Byrd entered the annual show, along with Sartell and teacher Allyson
Goin. Those students are Ben Guertin, McKinley FiGart, Gretchen Kinner, Sali Doura,
Alexandria Cook, Sandy Scott, Kristen Neal, Chloe Underwood Agee, Ambrielle Wood, Skylar
Edwards, Makayla Flack, Savannah Powell, Karisma Carver, Jocelyn Hartman, Lance Freedle,
and Michaya Henderson.
Best in Show benefits the Roanoke Valley SPCA. This year’s exhibit featured the original
artwork of over 200 local artists—paintings, sculpture, pastels, photography—depicting animals.
Best in Show is one of the most anticipated events of the year.
All of the artwork is for sale with at least 50% of the purchase price donated to the RVSPCA by
the artists.
