Lala’s Piano Players held their spring recital at the Vinton War Memorial on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. Carol McCulloch, affectionately known as “Lala,” is a talented music teacher who has been teaching piano for nine years. Lala states that: “My mission is to teach the love of music to both typical and special needs students.” She teaches four special needs students privately, and also teaches music at Lutheran Family Services of Virginia.
Her 23 students vary in age from kindergarten to adult. Students enjoy her unique teaching techniques. Lala encourages her students to present papers that show their passion for the song as well as give background information on the composer.
Student artwork is presented at the recital, which shows what music means to them. This year a student created and wore a Cruella deVille mask to show her enthusiasm for her song “Cruella deVille.”
Lala’s students include: Harry Anderson, Peter Anderson, Leslie Coleman, Donna Cosmato, Abbie Dooley, Chukie Elechi, Carly Graybill, Jackson Hare, Madison Hare, Savannah Hare, Logan Jones, Callie Lusk, Elizabeth Martinez, Chris Merchant, Kirsten Neal, Brianna Robertson, Evan Smith, Alyssa Vann, and Shelby Whitmer. Overall, the spring recital was an enjoyable event.
