Marie Maxey Ham, 87, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2017.
She was born in Roanoke on August 5, 1930, to James C. Maxey and Gladys Wood Maxey. Marie married Robert O. Ham Sr. on May 7, 1948 in Vinton, celebrating 69 years of marriage this year. Marie was co-owner of Robert Ham Heating and Air Conditioning for 47 years. She also dedicated 25 years to the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Watch, and upon retiring she become an honorary U.S. Marshal.
Marie is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert Ham Sr.; children, Robert (Sherie) Ham Jr., Jerry Ham, Jeffery (Joyce) Ham; sister, Betty (Eddie) Overstreet; grandchildren, Amy Ham, Robert (Amber) Ham III, Jonathan Ham, Jessie (Kevin) Ham-Purser, and Jodie (Ryan) Castillo; step-grandchildren, Ellen (Jonathan) Oakey-Flory, Dorothy (Paul) Kelly; and numerous great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Maxey and Gladys Wood Maxey; and brothers, James T. Maxey and Dean C. Maxey.

A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 11, Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Pastor Gary Alls will officiate and interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel.
