VINTON–Chief Wayne Guffey of the Vinton First Aid Crew has received the 2016 Outstanding Administrator Award from the Western Virginia EMS Council. He was recognized by Vinton Town Council at their meeting on July 19.
The award recognizes “an individual who has demonstrated ability to organize, conduct, manage, problem solve, and evaluate within his or her organization and, by exemplary leadership and administrative skills, improve the effectiveness, response and delivery of EMS.”
Guffey has been active in volunteer EMS in Roanoke County for more than three decades, including 25 years at the Vinton First Aid Crew. He has served as sergeant, second lieutenant, first lieutenant, captain, and as assistant chief. He was installed as the new chief on June 30. He is also employed by the Vinton Police Department as their Records/Police Services Assistant.
