The 2018 Dual Party Primary will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.

The deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration, is Monday, May 21.

Because the Commonwealth conducts open party primaries and does not conduct voter registration by political affiliation, every qualified voter who wants to participate will be asked to indicate in which party’s primary they wish to vote.

Voters are free to vote in either the Democratic Party Primary or the Republican Party Primary, but no voter may participate in both.

When asked to make this decision, a voter may communicate their choice of ballot to an Officer of Election verbally or in writing. No voter’s choice of ballot during the upcoming Dual Party Primary will affect their Virginia Voter Registration record in any way.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is Tuesday, June 5. The request must be received by your registrar by 5 p.m.

Those registering as Democrats in the Dual Primary will be choosing between Anthony J. Flaccavento and Justin D. Santopietro for the 9th District seat in the House of Representatives.

Democrats running for the 6th District House of Representatives seat include Sergio A. Coppola II, Jennifer Lynn Lewis, Peter J. Volosin, and Charlotte Moore of Roanoke.

Republican candidates for the statewide United States Senate seat currently held by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine include Corey A. Stewart of Prince William County, Nick J. Freitas of Culpepper, and E.W. Jackson from Chesapeake. Kaine is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.
