VINTON–While the Roanoke County Police Department and Roanoke County Schools are investigating a message found scrawled in a girls’ restroom at William Byrd High School on Thursday, principal Dr. Richard Turner says classes will go on as normal today with additional safety measures in place.

“Around lunchtime, a student discovered a message written in a stall in a girl’s restroom that said ‘shooting tomorrow,’ said Turner in a message to parents on Thursday. “That student immediately notified the school administration and we began investigating. So far, we have found no evidence that this threat is credible, though our investigation is continuing in cooperation with the Roanoke County Police Department. I remind parents that we will have a normal day tomorrow [Friday]. I want to reassure you that the safety of all our students is our top concern and we will be implementing additional safety measures tomorrow to ensure a safe school community.”
