The William Byrd tennis teams will take on Staunton River today in their final matches before spring break. The girls will be at Staunton River and the boys will play in Vinton.

The girls split two matches in the past week. Last week at Hollins University the girls dropped a 7-2 decision to a strong Lord Botetourt team. Kaiyden Settles won at number one in a match that included two tie-breakers, and Allison Faulkner won at third singles.

On Monday at home the girls beat Glenvar, 6-3. Settles, Faulkner, Hannah Shelton and Olivia Ashworth all won in singles while the teams of Settles and Shelton as well as Faulkner and Kinley Moore won doubles matches.

“All the girls played great in this match,” said coach Kayla Mitchell. “We couldn’t have had better weather, too.”

The boys lost to both LB and Glenvar, and matches last Friday with Rockbridge were postponed due to the cold.
