The William Byrd girls tennis team remained undefeated with an 8-1 win over Northside at Walrond Park last week.

“Northside was a great match for us,” said coach Kayla Mitchell-McCroskey.

Emilie McCaskill had a plan with her match and finished in about 45 minutes, the shortest match all season. The best match of the night was the number one singles where Lexi Aquino pulled out a win. Other singles winners included Makenna Jacobsen, Grace Saunders and Timber Raines. In doubles Aquino and Jacobsen won at number one, McCaskill and Saunders won at two and Raines and Ashley Gegasse won at three.

Makenna Jacobsen hits a return against Northside.

The win gave Byrd a 4-0 record in the Blue Ridge District. The Terriers lost a non-district match to Cave Spring last week, 6-3.

“I’m very proud of how the girls played against them,” said Mitchell-McCroskey.

The boys played Northside at home last week and lost 9-0 and they’re still looking for their first win. Tonight both teams will host Lord Botetourt.

Do you keep copies of past Messengers? I would love to buy a few copies that have Steve Lonker’s obituary in it.
Thank you so much for this!
