The William Byrd swim team took the horn for the winter season
on Tuesday and swept visiting Lord Botetourt. Both the Byrd boys and
girls outscored the Cavaliers at the Gator Aquatic Center in Roanoke.

“It was a great kick off to our season,” said Byrd coach Krista
Martin. “Our captains, Lindsay Murtaugh, Gabby Romeo and Keith Shult,
took good care of our new swimmers and made sure their first meet went
well. Tristan Blevins, Chase Madonna, Jameson Horst and Graham Payne
made their debut in the pool for Byrd swim.”
The girls outscored Lord Botetourt 83.5 to 56.5. Murtaugh won the
200 free and the 100 free, Hadyn Terrell won the 200 IM and the 100
breast, Romeo won the 500 free and Kayleigh Barber won the 100 back.
The girls’ 200 Medley Relay team of Barber, Terrell, Murtaugh and
Romeo also finished first, as did the 400 Free Relay team with the same
four girls.

“Our girls’ A Relay was looking really strong with Kayleigh
Barber, Hadyn Terrell, Gabby Romeo and Lindsay Murtaugh,” said
Martin. “I can’t wait to see what they can do with these relays this
season.”
The Byrd boys doubled up the Cavaliers, 96-48. Brody Parrish
won the 500 free and the 100 breast, Kyler Martin won the 200 free, Chase
Madonna won the 50 free and Ben Gardner won the 100 fly.
Byrd also won two relays. The 200 Medley and 400 free teams
both consisted of Martin, Parrish, Gardner and Madonna.
“Our freshman boys are going to be ones to watch out for this
season,” said coach Martin. “Freshmen Kyler Martin and Chase Madonna
both had individual wins and relay wins.”
The Terriers are back in the pool next Tuesday, December 9, when
they travel to the Franklin County YMCA to take on the host Eagles.
