The first Blue Ridge District golf “mini-match” was held at the Ole Monterey course in
Roanoke Tuesday and William Byrd came in third as a team. William Fleming hosted the match,
although the Colonels did not field a complete team.
The early leader is Franklin County, who shot a team score of 313. Northside was second
at 319 and Byrd came in at 326, one stroke ahead of Lord Botetourt. Staunton River brought up
the rear with a 399.
Nick Crawford of Northside was the first medalist of the BRD season, shooting a one-
over-par 72. Byrd’s best score was a 75 by Nathan Carter, and he had the second best score
among all individuals. Also scoring for the Terriers were David Foster at 77, Andrew Kiker at 81
and Tyler Chambers at 93. Also playing for the Terriers, but not finishing in the top four, were
Maddox Wolfe at 94 and Landon Haithcock at 95.
The next BRD match is Tuesday, August 15, hosted by Franklin County.
