The William Byrd girls got their first tennis win of the season last week when the Terriers defeated Lord Botetourt in Vinton, 6-3.

The match was originally scheduled to be hosted by LB, but the Cavaliers had their usual home courts at Hollins University pulled out from under them so the Byrd girls got to host the match, finding out just a day prior that it was to be held.

The Terriers won three singles matches as Lexi Aquino won at one, Makenna Jacobsen won at two and Emilie McCaskill was victorious at third singles. Byrd swept the doubles with Aquino and Jacobsen winning at one, McCaskill and Grace Saunders at two and Timber Raines and Ashley Begasse won at third doubles.

The girls are back on the courts today with a match at William Fleming, and Friday they’ll host Staunton River.

The boys also played LB last week and lost 9-0. They’re at Staunton River today.
