The William Byrd cross country team participated in the “Byrd 400” last Thursday around the high school and surrounding trails. The event is an annual fund raiser for the team.
Team members and others who opted to participate completed a total of 638 miles, and 338 were by runners on the team. Reagan Lilley was the top runner with 20.6 miles completed while Claire Glover ran 14.68. Top middle school runners were Colton Sotherden with 12 miles and Elanna Mullen with 11. Mark Mailhot, a teacher, was the top “friend” with 18.79 miles.
“I love this day,” said Byrd coach Eric Royal. “We get together and the kids run more miles than they think they can run and there is a healthy competition between them, not wanting their teammate to run farther. Great bond.”
