Herman L. Horn Elementary School traditionally holds a Book Character event each fall at the end of October. In past years, students chose their favorite Book Characters to portray from their favorite books and joined a Character Parade around the outdoor track, with families invited to participate as well.
This year the organizers decided to change things up with a Book Character Ball on the evening of October 26 which included not just dressing in costume, but cupcakes, a DJ, a free book for each child who attended, and a costume contest.
The four winners of the costume contest were “Scarecrow” Jett Mangus, “Jack” from “The Magic Tree House” Ace Adkins, “Ms. Frazzle” Scottie Leonard, and “Waldo” Tucker Hall. Prizes were a large chocolate bar and an additional free book of their choosing.
The event was organized by the Title I personnel at Herman L. Horn, including Dorr Booan, Emily Murray, Ginny Barton, Sandy Hunt, and Parental Involvement Specialist Phyllis Satterfield.
