Franklin County High School will be the site of the Blue Ridge District track meet this Saturday. Field events will begin at 9 am with running events scheduled to take the gun at 10:30 am.
Last Wednesday, May 11th, the Terriers hosted a meet with Lord Botetourt, Bassett, Glenvar, North Cross and Martinsville. It was Senior Day for the Byrd thinclads and a host of seniors were recognized prior to the meet, including Hunter Richards, Hayden Janney, Trevor Ruble, Walker Nance, Jayson Marvin, Remi Figart, Chloe Harrilla, Sela Beatty, Emma Dalton, Jaylen Rosser, Mya Rosser, Mackenzie Foley and Sarah Fuchs.
Once the action started Byrd had some solid performances. On the ladies side Sela Beatty finished second in the 100m and Remi Figart finished third in the 100 and 200m dash. Grace Owni took second in the 400m dash and Kendall Gordon finished third. Emma Kageals finished second in the 300m hurdles.
In the field events Figart finished second in the high jump, Gracie Mick won pole vault, Kageals finished third in the long jump and Mya Rosser won the shot and discus. Jaylen Rosser finished second in shot and third in discus.
On the boys side Deshawn Austin finished fourth in the 400m. Wyatte Bailey took fourth in the 800m run while Walker Nance was third in the 110m hurdles and Landon Martin finished 4th in the 300m hurdles. Jaiden ChIldress won and state qualified in the high jump by clearing 5’11 and Ethan Haston finished second in the long jump.
Lane Shoemaker was third in the triple jump and Bailey and Haston finished one-two in the pole vault. Caleb Thompson won the discus with a throw of 120’1.
After Saturday’s district meet the Terriers will get ready for the Region 3D meet at Staunton River on Thursday, May 26.
