The Big Orange wrestlers had a busy time last week, wrestling 12 dual matches in a span of four days. Byrd went 8-5 against a variety of district and regional teams.
Last Wednesday at Northside the Terriers split four matches in the Blue Ridge District Duals. Byrd defeated Lord Botetourt and William Fleming head-to-head but lost to Northside and Staunton River. Clay Pilgreen at 120, Jerze Webb at 145 and Zach Figart at 195 all won district championships.
On Saturday the Orangemen were at E.C. Glass High School to take on teams from Class 4, Region D. Byrd went 6-3 as a team and Derek Burton went undefeated for the weekend.
“It was a good look at the competition for the upcoming regional tournament,” said coach Thomas Kessler. “Now our kids have the weekend off to rest and get ready to make a post-season run.”
Byrd will next wrestle in the Region D tournament on February 10.
