The annual Vinton “Christmas Classic” for youth basketball teams was held at the William Byrd High School gym on December 7. This is traditionally a fundraiser for the Roanoke County Recreation Basketball Clubs.
There were 23 teams participating (9-U boys, 9-U girls, 11-U boys, and 13-U boys) and 39 games which ran from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Canned goods were collected as an entry fee and will be donated back to the local food shelter.
Vinton had two teams that played in the final and earned runner-up medals, the 9-U Vinton Terrier girls and the 11-U Vinton Netz .
Winning teams were Cave Spring-Bowersock in the 9-U girls’ division, Cave Spring-Croy in the 9-U boys’ division, the North Roanoke Vikings in the 11-U boys’ division and Cave Spring-Myers in the 13-U boys’ division.
