The William Byrd girls are going through a tough part of the schedule and
it won’t get an easier tonight. The Terriers will head to Daleville to take on
Lord Botetourt in a Blue Ridge District game.
This season the BRD is loaded. Lord Botetourt is 14-2 overall but that’s
only good for third place in the district. William Fleming is first at 5-0 in the
district and 14-2 overall followed by Staunton River, who is 4-1 in the district and
15-1 overall. Staunton River held second place by beating LB Tuesday, 45-43.
Byrd played Staunton River and Fleming in the past week. Last Saturday
the Terriers lost at Staunton River, 59-44, despite 21 points by Sam Martin. On
Tuesday the Byrd girls dropped a home game to Fleming, 76-22.

With Tuesday’s loss the Terriers are 1-5 in the district and 5-12 overall.
They picked up the district win last Wednesday at Northside, 54-42. Mia Martin
led Byrd in that one with 19 points and Skye Williams had a dozen.
The girls have had a busy schedule, as they travelled to Dublin a night
later for a non-district game with Pulaski County and lost 53-38. Williams had 13
points and Heidi Dixon had a dozen.
“Our post players have really stepped up,” said coach Kat Stanley.
“Rebounding from both Dixon and Williams has made a huge impact for us both
offensively and defensively.”
The girls will finish up the regular season with four straight home games,
beginning next Tuesday when Franklin County’s girls come to Vinton.
