Roanoke College was the site of the East Coast Elite Meet #3 for high
school and middle school indoor track teams last Saturday and William Byrd had
some good times and distances in the meet. This was the last regular season meet
for the Terrier indoor team.
The best finish for the Byrd boys was a second in the 4×800 meter relay.
The team of Donald Mullins, Reid Hanson, Shaun Gower and Reagan Lilley was
runnerup in a strong field with a time of 8:48.74. The 4×200 team took ninth in
1:41.32 with the foursome of Jerret Shepherd, Thomas Purcell, James Smith and
Brayden Serfass.
Individually, Wyatte Bailey finished 10th in the 300m dash with a time of
1:11.70 and Mullins was 13th in 1:12.46. Kyle Holdaway finished sixth in the
pole vault with a height of 9’.
In the high school girls’ meet, Emma Kageals was third in the long jump
with a state qualifying jump of 16’ ¼” while Lily Perez was eighth and Olivia
Bustamante was 12th . Kageals also took 14th in the 300 meters and Bustamante
was fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’11”.
Perez took fourth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.66 while
teammates Emily Fisher and Virginia Yonce were 16th and 19th . Fisher also took
16th in the triple jump.
Byrd middle school also had some competitors in the meet at RC. Isaiah
Thompson was third in the shot put and fourth in the 55 meter dash and Jacey
Weddle was 23rd in the girls’ 55 dash and 27th in the 300 meters.
The Blue Ridge District meet was held at the VMI indoor facility in
Lexington on Tuesday of this week but results were too late for publication. The
Region 3D meet will be back at the Kerr-Cregger Indoor Fieldhouse at Roanoke
College on Saturday, February 17.
