The William Byrd swimmers competed in the “All-Timesland” meet at the
Gator Center in Roanoke last Saturday as 14 schools from around the valley
crammed into the facility near Virginia Western Community College. The
Albemarle boys and Cave Spring girls took the team titles at the annual meet.
Preliminaries were held Saturday morning and Byrd had 10 swimmers
qualify for the finals that evening. Those swimmers were Cary Jones, Lindsay
Murtaugh, Mia Pippin, Gabby Romeo, Evan Copening, Michael Hoyos, Chris
Hurd, Cole Kovacevic, Brody Parrish and Blake Richardson.
At Saturday’s finals Murtaugh won the girls’ 500 free and was third in the
200 freestyle. Hoyos took a fifth in the 500 free and joined Kovacevic, Copening
and Richardson for a sixth place finish in the 100 medley relay.
The Terriers were scheduled to have their Senior Night at the Gator Center
on Tuesday of this week but that was postponed due to Monday’s snow.
