The William Byrd swimmers were at the Gator Center in Roanoke Friday night to host a meet and celebrate “Senior Night.” Cave Spring and North Cross were the opponents.
Byrd recognized senior team captain Colin Murtaugh’s outstanding career with the Terriers prior to the meet. Colin was recognized at 6:45 p.m. and the last home meet of the season began at 7 p.m.
The Terriers have been busy with two meets in the past week. Last Thursday at the Botetourt YMCA the Terriers took on Franklin County, Christiansburg and host Lord Botetourt. The Byrd men beat LB and Christiansburg but lost to Franklin County while the girls beat Franklin but lost to the other two.
“We saw some fast swimming at the Botetourt Y last Thursday,” said Byrd coach Krista Martin. “We’re hoping to finish out our regular season strong with these last few meets before post season.”
Murtaugh won the 50 and 100 free and anchored the winning 400 Freestyle relay with Michael Hoyos, Cole Kovacevic and Evan Copening.
On Tuesday of this week the Byrd swimmers were back at the Botetourt Y to swim against James River and Alleghany and both the Byrd girls and boys picked up wins. Individual results were not available at press time.
